Encaustic Bird Mosaic
I'm constantly trying to figure out the secret to taking magical photo's. I see such beautiful photo's on people's blogs, flickr and etsy.....and then there are mine! My secret is to take TONS of shots, and hope that at least one is a keeper. Here's a little mosaic of (yet another) photo shoot that I did today of a few encaustic birds (that are now in my shop).

Beeswax Crows and Birds
I FINALLY finished these crows and birds! Geez louize these took me a while to finish off.
I plan on reviving my etsy shop - it's been a long while since I've listed anything on etsy. This time I'll be starting from scratch with a brand new shop under the name: "RavensRestStudio", instead of "JenniferConway".

Melted Beeswax Smells So Good
I'm still working on the beeswax coated birds and crows. I had to take a little break from them, but they're aaaaaalmost finished now!

The melted beeswax makes our house smell wonderful!

These guys just need a little colour (I love using pan pastels), and some black sparkling top hats, and they're done!

January Giveaway
Here's my January giveaway:

It's a little encaustic piece that I made in December. It measures 3 x 5 inches, and is made from layers of 1930's court ledger paper, handmade paper, image transfer, and pan pastels......with layers of beeswax in-between, and on top of it all!
If you'd like to enter to win this, all you have to do is leave a quick comment below!

The Coolest Bottle Cap EVER
Isn't this the coolest bottle cap EVER?!
I have clients saving their bottle caps for me, and some come in with stuffed to the brim/overflowing baggies (and are embarrassed by the amount of beer they've gone through since their last visit!), and others reach in their purse and pull out 3 or 4 caps. I welcome them all, and it's interesting to see what people's favourite beverages are. I love Granville Island caps - they have great cap colours!
This lone cap came from my friend/client Emily, who found it lying on the side of the road. Thanks Em, it's AWESOME!

Speaking of cool treasures, one of my class mates at the Encaustic Workshop class, was Russell, from TwistedPapers.com. I just had to take a couple of snapshots of his tray of goodies! He gave me a piece of his (perfectly crumbly) antique sewing tape to use in my bird piece.

Encaustic Workshop - Day 1
I'm taking a 3 day Encaustic Workshop with Patricia Baldwin Seggebruch....SO MUCH FUN!
Look at all these pots of coloured wax - don't you just want to dive in?!

This is a giant vat of melted beeswax. Smells so good!

Here's my pieces from day one. Tomorrow we add "stuff" to them, do some burning, image transfers, collage material.....

The last time I posted, I was about to do the "Ivory Vintage" market! Time is seriously flying by - scary! Here's a photo of the front foyer:

My table. This was my first time (this season) squeezing onto a 6 foot table. I'm used to having a 10 foot square tent to do whatever I wanted! Don't even ask about the obnoxious light in the middle!

I made my hubby take time off work so that I could go and do the 3 day workshop, so he decided to take the whole week off. Our daughter has been especially loving this, and is enjoying the leisurely mornings hanging out, reading books in bed. (Her dad has been loving it too!).

3 Day Encaustic Workshop
Since I have October "off", I'm able to have a little fun time for myself, and am thrilled to be taking a 3 day workshop with Patricia Baldwin Seggebruch.

I have to admit, this video scares me a little bit........
I'm not sure how filled up the class is, but if you're near Vancouver, and are interested, The Upstart Crow (in Ladner) is hosting this workshop.
